When it comes to measuring language proficiency, not all tests are created equally. Only ACTFL® assessments, delivered exclusively through Language Testing International® (LTI), produce ACTFL scores and certificates, credentials recognized globally by K-12 programs, universities, employers, and government agencies. Any ACTFL rating provided by a non-ACTFL assessment is not recognized by ACTFL. In other words, no one else can issue ACTFL scores.

Is “ACTFL-aligned” Enough?

Some test providers administer proficiency tests built on their own scale (or another non-ACTFL scale), and then attempt to correlate or align their scores to ACTFL scores for reporting. While some assessments claim alignment with ACTFL Guidelines, alignment does not mean they are issuing ACTFL scores. There’s no industry recognized and peer-reviewed correlations of non-ACTFL test scores to ACTFL proficiency levels. So, scores from non-ACTFL tests are only approximations and not ACTFL ratings.
