The term “official ACTFL score” carries significant weight because it reflects a verified result from an ACTFL-certified assessment. Only tests developed by ACTFL can receive these official scores. Examples of ACTFL assessments include the ACTFL Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages (AAPPL), the ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI), the ACTFL Writing Proficiency Test (WPT), and others.

Every ACTFL assessment is extensively researched, developed, field-tested, and externally validated to ensure it accurately measures language proficiency. When you receive an official ACTFL score, you can trust that it represents your language abilities at the level as described in the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines – 2024.

Some language assessments report scores on the CEFR or ILR scale. ACTFL assessments can also report scores on either scale in addition to the ACTFL scale.
