Surgical energy devices help shape modern perioperative practice, touching nearly every specialty. At the same time, the use of surgical energy devices introduces new safety considerations as these devices and others evolve.

To better reflect that reality with clearer direction, the Guideline for Electrosurgical Safety is now titled the Guideline for Safe Use of Surgical Energy Devices.

The newly updated Guideline is now live within eGuidelines+ and includes 12 new and 51 revised recommendations, plus two new sections on return electrodes and quality to make content easier to find and apply.
